If I Exist, I Have a Perspective [NOEMA]

This position paper situates Kolmogorov Theory (KT) and its philosophical formulation, Experiential Structural Platonism (KT-ESP), in dialogue with four contemporary thinkers β Karl Friston, Carlo Rovelli, Galen Strawson, and Michael Levin β who each approach the relationship between mind, matter, and persistence from distinct directions. The paper argues that KT makes a distinctive ontological inversion: rather than beginning with physical matter and asking how experience arises from it, KT takes structured experience as intrinsic and mathematical organization as its structural aspect, treating physicality itself as realized mathematical structure within an experiential base. Against this backdrop, the paper examines how Friston's Free Energy Principle, Rovelli's perspectivism, Strawson's intrinsic-nature argument, and Levin's Platonic ingression thesis each illuminate β and are illuminated by β KT's account of persistent patterns, algorithmic viewpoints, and graded agency. A central claim is that the question "what makes a pattern an agent?" and the question "what structure does its experience have?" are logically distinct but jointly tractable: the former is addressed through regulated persistence and the Algorithmic Regulator framework, the latter through implemented mathematical structure. Recent empirical work on intersubjective comparison of color-experience geometry is offered as evidence that structured phenomenal comparison is scientifically possible without resolving the hard problem of consciousness.
Existence implies perspective β and Kolmogorov Theory argues that the structure of that perspective is mathematically tractable science, not just philosophy.
Most theories of mind start from physics and then worry about how experience sneaks in. This paper flips that order. Kolmogorov Theory (KT) starts from the one thing that survives radical doubt β "I have structured experience" β and treats the physical world as a realized mathematical organization within that experiential base, not as the bedrock from which experience must somehow be conjured. That inversion is the paper's central move, and everything else follows from it.
The paper puts KT in dialogue with four contemporary thinkers to sharpen what that inversion buys. Friston's Free Energy Principle says: if a system still exists, its dynamics must already have been compatible with persistence β survival is a retrospective fact, not a goal. Rovelli says: there is no view from nowhere; every scientific description is produced by an embodied knower inside the world. Strawson says: experience is the certain datum; the real mystery is what matter is intrinsically, since physics only ever gives us relational structure. Levin says: minds might be high-agency patterns in a Platonic space that "ingress" into physical bodies as interfaces. KT agrees with pieces of all four but makes a more specific commitment β one base, two inseparable aspects: experience intrinsically, mathematics structurally. No second Platonic realm, no matter-first ontology.
A key distinction the paper draws carefully is between three questions that often get collapsed: What makes a pattern persist? What makes it an agent? What structure does its experience have? These are logically independent. A crystal can satisfy a minimal-agent criterion (its own restoring dynamics carry the regulatory load) without being conscious in any rich sense. A thermostat regulates a room but is not the room's agent β the regulator sits outside the maintained pattern. The interesting science is graded: regulatory reach, model plasticity, counterfactual depth, and whether the system's objective serves its own continuation (telehomeostasis) or something else entirely.
The empirical anchor is a 2025 experiment on color experience. Participants rated similarities among 93 colors; an unsupervised alignment algorithm then compared the resulting relational geometries across people β without assuming that one person's "red" maps to another's. Neurotypical observers' color-space geometries aligned correctly; color-blind observers' did not align with neurotypical ones in the same way. This doesn't prove qualia are identical across people, but it demonstrates something more modest and important: the structure of phenomenal experience can be measured and compared scientifically, without first solving the hard problem. KT's claim is that this structured geometry β not the bare fact that experience exists β is what neuroscience and mathematics can actually explain.
The paper closes with three pointed questions for Friston, Rovelli, and Levin respectively: What exactly fixes the identity of the "self" whose evidence is being accumulated? What mathematical relations must a physical process implement to constitute a genuine perspective rather than just an externally imposed description? And could persistent implemented structure replace the separate Platonic-space posit entirely? KT's tentative answer to all three is the same: look for what structure a pattern carries, what structure it preserves across change, and what counterfactual repertoire its physical implementation actually supports.
